Radio 1 Dj Odd After Gay Bondage Session

Former Radio 1 disc jockey Kevin Greening died of a drug overdose after a gay bondage session, an inquest has been told.

A post mortem last month found that Greening, 44, died from a heart attack caused by a drug overdose in December, at a time when he had been a presenter on London's Smooth Radio.

And speaking at today's inquest, Coroner Paul Knapman has recorded that Greening's death was as a result of misadventure.

"He was found dead having indulged in unorthodox sexual behaviour involving restraint equipment and illegal drugs," he ruled.

Greening's boyfriend Sean Griffin, the ocuupier of the Wandsworth flat in which Greening was found, said: "Kevin and I had a very happy and very vigorous sex life.

"It was not conventional by heterosexual norms perhaps but it was a sex life which was vigorous and imaginative and we enjoyed each other."

Greening was part of the launch line-up of Virgin Radio in 1993 and joined Radio 1 the following year. He co-hosted the station's flagship breakfast show with Zoe Ball from 1997 to 1998 before returning to a weekend hosting slot.

It is believed the former breakfast show presenter had taken large quantities of cocaine, ecstasy and GHB on the night of his death.

Greening also worked at Radio 5 Live, as well as London stations Jazz FM, Heart 106.2 and XFM.
